I am…
Eric Smart, I'm Deaf and a believer. I'm 45 years old, 6’0 tall and average built, have brown eyes, and wear glasses. My hair is short clean-cut and with magnificent big beard are mixed brown and grey, and I always wear flat-billed hats and casual yet professional swag. I am funny, love building and fixing things, being outdoors, ride motorcycle, climb trees and especially the Arts. Arts is not only just a paint and brush but the “Arts” of Living. I'm fascinated by all cultures and their arts, passionate about languages and communication styles within the Deaf community and finding solutions and creative strategies that benefit everyone. I enjoy working and volunteering with different organizations that are inside and outside of the Deaf community, particularly for those who want to learn and focus on helping deaf community to recovery. As the first Deaf front-line in the state of Georgia, with lived experience as a substance user and someone who has faced mental health challenges, I am uniquely qualified to help and serve my community.
Recovery is deeply tied to languages and cultures. I'm committed to breaking down barriers so everyone can access the resources they need to heal in their own language and within their own community. I am advocating for everyone to pursue their happiness by defining recovery in their own terms. I love building things, bringing people together... it's just in my nature! Think of me as Heinz 57 sauce, you know? 57 different flavors all mixed into one. That’s who I am: that’s what I do.
